This is our 5-week long Empowerment program designed to prepare you for a career path rather than just a job, but as our past participants can attest, it is so much more. Our next Minnesota Empowerment Training program is set to begin February 10th, and will once again be held at Black Bear Resort in Carlton, MN. Future class sites will be determined based upon applicant locations. If we have enough interest in an region, we will set up a program that would be conveniently located to those applicants. Some possible sites could include Shooting Star Casino, Cedar Lakes Casino and also Bemidji and of course we will continue to provide programming in the Fond du Lac Band area. Class sizes are limited but please know we will have several more opportunities for you over the next several coming months at various locations throughout Minnesota. More than one class may operate at a time so we encourage you to apply.

The TRIBAL TRADES ACADEMY is recruiting for our Spring Class to begin in Mid-April 2020. This year's program will be in partnership with the Building Strong Communities - Apprenticeship Preparatory Program. The Building Strong Communities program is an apprenticeship preparatory program that will prepare you for a career in the construction industry. This program offers individuals the opportunity to receive Union endorsed training, exposure and a "foot in the door" to a career in the trades. Program graduates will have an opportunity to interview with participating Construction Trade Unions and Contractors.

 Construction Career Awareness:
A career in the construction industry is typically a physically demanding profession. Daily work usually involves standing, walking, moving and carrying heavy equipment and materials. Construction work frequently requires being outside in the elements, confined spaces and heights.
The Building Strong Communities program is offered in partnership with:

  • Cement Masons
  • Pipe Fitters
  • Sprinkler Fitters
  • Sheet Metal
  • North America's Building Trades Union (NABTU)
  • McKnight Foundation

  • Lunda McCrossan Joint Venture
  • Ames 

This class will take place in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area; you must meet the following criteria to be eligible.

Program Eligibility:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Earned a high school diploma / GED / or equivalent

  • Ability to pass a drug screen

  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Background check maybe required by employer upon placement

  • NOT currently enrolled in a construction union or construction trade training program.

Our next Two-Week Empowerment Class will be scheduled as interest arises. This program is being offered to the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and neighboring Tribes. This is a two-week program and the Core elements we cover during this program are Financial Literacy, Industry Expectations as well as the expectations all employers have of a good, solid, dependable employee. We go into self-esteem, inter-generational and historical trauma, resiliency and providing coping skills. We cover critical core skills such as communication, critical thinking, leadership, planning as well as several other key skills. We will work on resumes, interviewing and professionalism in the workplace.
